There we were driving along Crowthorne Road, a fairly non-descript journey so far to a destination I’ve long forgotten when all of a sudden something emerged from the sky a few meters in front of us.
It quickly revealed itself to be a pigeon that had either got into trouble and was struggling to recover, or worse it had died in the air and there was only one way it was heading.
With a car in front and behind there was nothing I could do other than brace for inevitable impact. I gripped the steering wheel tight and prepared for the windscreen to shatter.
It all happened so quickly that I didn’t have time to tell Annie about the impending thump. The pigeon hit the windscreen with such force!
To this day I’m astounded the windscreen didn’t shatter. The bird slid off my car and despite Annie jumping and exclaiming “what the hell was that!?”, we all came out unscathed.
